More efficiency and climate protection in professional horticulture

Pöppelmann TEKU ® sets standards in the green industry with products that combine greater efficiency and automation with resource conservation and climate protection. The latest innovation: non-recyclable items made of black plastic have been replaced by recyclable alternatives. Customers now benefit from a fully recyclable product range. Arno Zerhusen and Dirk Moormann report on the innovations for professional horticulture that Pöppelmann TEKU® is presenting at the IPM: The plastics specialist is driving the transformation of the industry by optimally combining resource conservation and climate protection with greater efficiency.

Mr Zerhusen, Mr Moormann, what highlights will Pöppelmann TEKU® be showcasing at the IPM?

A.Z.: Our aim is to fulfil our customers' high demands in terms of quality and efficiency, while at the same time achieving greater climate protection and resource conservation with our products. At the trade fair, we will be presenting articles that follow these principles: They help to make the green industry more efficient while protecting the environment and climate.

D.M.: We are particularly proud of the fact that we have now completely removed non-recyclable black products from our range. Plant pots and pallets made of black plastic were long considered indispensable in professional horticulture due to their opacity and UV resistance. However, according to independent testing by the Cyclos Institute, they cannot be recycled. We have solved this problem: by switching to grey and coloured materials made from post-consumer recyclate (PCR), we offer alternatives that do not compromise on quality, conserve resources and close the loop between use and reuse. We have thus achieved the goal of a circular economy with our entire product range.

What role does the avoidance of black plastics play in the Pöppelmann Group's climate strategy?

A.Z.: The elimination of black plastics in our TEKU® product portfolio is a real milestone, in line with the PÖPPELMANN blue® initiative. We promote the circular economy to conserve resources and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Our circular products in the Circular360 category were also created as part of the initiative. We use almost exclusively post-consumer recyclates (PCR) from household recycling collections to manufacture these products. They reduce the need for new raw materials and close the loop.

How do you ensure that the materials for your products meet the high standards of recyclability?

D.M.: We pay strict attention to clean recycling streams. Our suppliers are obliged to provide us with pure and recyclable raw materials that do not introduce any non-recyclable components, such as black material, into the recycling process. Customers can be confident that our products are made from exactly these materials. Independent certifications such as the Blue Angel, cyclos-HTP and RecyClass guarantee the fulfilment of strict environmental standards. This is how we actively contribute to the circular economy.

What other highlights await visitors to the IPM at Pöppelmann TEKU®?

A.Z.: We have prepared a series of new products that are all about increasing the efficiency of horticultural businesses. These include a completely new plant pot series that we manufacture using the thermoforming process. The pots are available in many sizes and will significantly improve automated processes in professional horticulture. These and other exciting innovations await trade visitors at the TEKU® stand. The industry can be excited ...
